One can imagine this file to have previously consisted of a one word document but it is at least encouraging that football might at last gain parity with other sports such as tennis, cricket and rugby which have embraced the use of technology. Intriguingly the use of video replays will not be discussed at the July meeting, so the ever raging offside debate is set to stay for the time being, but kudos to the Uruguayan officials for making the mistake in front of Sepp - at least he couldn't come up with the excuse that he didn't see it!

Fifa to discuss the need for goalline technology
Finally it would appear that Sepp Blatter and Fifa are coming round to the idea of embracing technology within football following reports that talks are set to commence following several key mistakes in the knockout stages of the World Cup. Blatter, who has in the past felt that goalline technology would disrupt the natural flow of matches, admitted that "It is obvious that after the experiences so far at this World Cup it would be nonsense not to re-open the file on goalline technology".
