Safina Pulls Out Of Wimbledon

Russian tennis star Dinara Safina has been forced to pull out of Wimbledon with a recurring back problem, reports The Guardian.

The former world number one has struggled with the problem since last season, having missed three months of action when retiring from her fourth round match against Maria Kirilenko at the Australian Open in January.

She returned to action on the WTA Tour in April, but since winning her first match, has endured a run of poor defeats.

Safina reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon last year, though her world ranking will continue to tumble from her current position of 21 if her injuries, and her form, do not recover.
